Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network

Connection is the heartbeat of Girdwood

Our vision for a Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network is simple: build community by helping others. These can be simple acts of assistance, like shoveling the steps of a neighbor who is injured, bringing a hot meal to a family going through a medical crisis, checking in on a housebound neighbor, or providing a ride to a medical appointment. The idea is to build a list of people who are willing to go out of their way to help others. If this is you, please throw your hat into the ring here. We will be in touch.

The vision for a Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network is to support solutions identified by Turnagain Community Services staff and Board of Directors. Here’s recent example of how giving to Turnagain Community Services has direct impact on your local community. A Girdwood resident became aware of a family, who work at a Girdwood business, who were homeless. Turnagain Community Services Executive Director worked in partnership with the donor, the family, the employer, and a local landlord to arrange a pathway to housing. Because of the donors gift and initiative, Turnagain Community Services was able to subsidize rent for a year, allowing the family to establish a stable home. The donation allowed the family to continue with school, work, and remain part of our community. A year later, that family is thriving and no longer needs rental assistance.

Willing to help with funds to support the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network? We are looking to raise funds that will directly help individuals by providing rides to medical appointments, assist in housing emergencies, purchase gift cards for groceries, restaurants, fuel and basic clothing, and Ryan’s Ride. Funds raised support to the program and directly assist with emergent needs in our community.

Ryan’s Ride: Ryan, a long time Girdwood community member, provides recycling services to business and individuals. His endeavor provides him with purpose and pride, and a deep desire to serve Girdwood with his services. In order to do this, he needs wheels. Turnagain Community Services was able to assist in fundraising to aquire a truck, known as “Ryan’s Ride”. In order to keep this ride on the road, funds are needed to help with tire change-overs, oil changes, and other misc repairs. If you know Ryan, then you know! Donated funds go directly to keeping his ride on the road.
